it's all in the perspective

without going into unnecessary details, there are times when you realize just how skewed the US media is. like this morning, i opened the news on guardian.co.uk and i see this as the headline news story. i think to myself how scary that is because a very close friend of mine is Lebanese and though she is no longer living there, much of her family is still there.

and then i open boston globe and i see this. nothing about an israeli ground invasion at all here. scroll down to the "world" section, and the main headline is this story. so everyone can breathe a sigh of relief, because surely if a peace worker thinks this is justified, then it must be. just in case you had any doubts at all, you can rest assured that it's all about having a right to defend yourself and your loved ones from those "terrorists" and that makes it all okay. click on all of today's world stories and still nothing about a ground invasion. and i guess they also forgot to mention the number of 300 plus civilians who have been killed by israeli bombs and the number of buildings hit that have nothing to to with terrorists too. all this after decades of work spent rebuilding those buildings following a long civil war there. and all this after the country had finally been declared safe and had begun to build up it's economy and tourism industry.

so i am going to stop myself here from going on a long drawn out and boring rant about this. instead, i would like to point out how cool it is that we are able to read these different perpectives on a daily basis, thanks to the internet. thank god for that.
