we've spent the last few days saying goodbye to london in various ways. friday evening was our final day of work celebrated with a summer barbecue and a few drinks with friends and coworkers. on saturday we took a ten mile walk along the Thames river out near Greenwich. sunday morning we took our favorite stroll along the thames from waterloo to london bridge via the Tate modern. and by sunday afternoon, after weeks of denial about the move, we finally realized we better get on to the packing or we were going to be sorry. so now we are knee deep in brown boxes and packing tape and all that good stuff.
after a month of hot weather and no rain, the heavens finally opened last night, though it did little for the poor yellow, dead grass that now looks like hay. it has been so dry here that the leaves are beginning to fall off the trees. and as the temperature has dropped into the 60's, it feels like october. it all seems rather in sync with all of our changes afoot. and i really feel like a little kid with a huge heavy backpack setting out into the unknown world of school at the beginning of the year, wondering if i'll make new friends, if i'll be able to find the bathroom, if my teacher will be nice.
tomorrow we'll be making our way to canterbury for the next 10 days. we will have limited internet access in canterbury (as the inlaws have not yet embraced the whole cyberspace thang). and once we arrive in boston, i have a strong feeling i am going to have my head up my arse with severe shock for at least 3-4 days. so i will excuse myself now from the next couple weeks of blogging :)
